The Peter J. Menne' Scholarship Fund

Peter Menne’ was born on June 7, 1934 (died Nov. 4, 2020) and raised in Elkhart Lake, Wisconsin, the second child to Arthur A. Menne’ and Eleanor (Werner) Menne’. He had an older sister, Joan (Menne’) Portigal, who married and moved to Ottawa, Canada and died in 1998.

Their parents, Arthur and Eleanor, were very involved in village life at Elkhart Lake. Arthur’s family owned the farm at the edge of town named Menne’ Acres, which Arthur bought and farmed as an adult. Eleanor moved to Elkhart Lake in the 1920’s as a school teacher and then married Arthur. Both were active socially and civically. Arthur served several terms as President of the Village of Elkhart Lake, and Eleanor was engaged in many bridge and social clubs.

Peter married Judith (Lawrence) Menne’ on August 29, 1959, and they raised their two daughters in Elkhart Lake. Like his father, he served several terms as President of the Village of Elkhart Lake. He was very involved with supporting and fund raising for local causes, including the Boy Scouts Troop 824 and Camp La Budde. Peter was proud to build his livelihood in the Village of Elkhart Lake. While he traveled to many different parts of the world for his company, he was always happy to come home to Elkhart Lake.

Peter’s parents set the stage for his commitment to, and life-long involvement with, the Village of Elkhart Lake and its people. It was Peter’s wish upon his death that his family create a scholarship fund to benefit the children of the Village of Elkhart Lake and its employees by helping to finance their secondary education.
