Harold C. Kallies Scholarship Fund

Since the day he was born in 1902 to G. Harry and Freida (nee Engel) Kallies, Harold C. Kallies called Manitowoc home.

After high school graduation, Harold joined his father’s business, G.H. Kallies Company, which was founded by his father in the late 1800’s. As a commercial, industrial and residential heating company, G.H. Kallies Company grew with the City of Manitowoc from its pioneer days. It expanded to other areas of Wisconsin and to upper Michigan and Illinois under Harold’s direction.

Like his father, Harold enjoyed a dynamic career in Manitowoc. Naturally, he wanted to share his success with the community he loved by helping graduates of Manitowoc County high schools pursue post-secondary education. The Harold C. Kallies Scholarship Fund makes annual distributions to Manitowoc County high schools to be awarded as scholarships based on Harold’s principle outlined in his Last Will & Testament:

“While scholastic standing may be considered, it shall not be the prime determining factor since, from my experience, I have learned that many persons who are not outstanding students can and have made great contributions to the non-scholastic world, even though their scholastic attainments or grades may have been mediocre while attending institutions of learning.”
